Matt Class of 2017 | Holy Family Catholic High School | Shakopee, MN Senior Photographer
This year I had the opportunity to take senior portraits for Matt Anderson, Class of 2017 from Holy Family Catholic High School. I know many of my posts for the local boys I've done senior sessions for this year begin with "I remember so and so from when they were little and played youth hockey with my son."
Matt is another one of these stories. And he will be graduating in the next few days!
Our families met back in Shakopee Youth Hockey. Matt completely DOMINATED the ice for a kid his age, leaving us in awe most of the time. Fast forward to today...he is still quite the stellar hockey player, and is a University of Minnesota Duluth commit and will be headed there this fall to study Business, and of course a spot on the Bulldogs Mens Hockey Roster. And maybe even carry on to the NHL. You never know.
I'm not even going to TRY to list all of Matt's accomplishments when it comes to hockey, because there is no way I can! But I'll tell you a few! Matt is ranked #111 for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft this year. He was a 2017 Mr. Hockey Award Candidate this year during the MN State High School Boys Hockey Tournament, with the title given to local high school competitor and USHL teammate, Casey Mittlestadt. USHL, USHS, USA-S15, USA-S16, USA-S17...this young man has incredible talent on the ice! I've only known him to be #3 out on the ice.
With quite the impressive resume, comes very little time to fit other things in. Like, part 2 of his senior photo session. We were supposed to fit in a second senior session which would have been focused more on his hockey with all of his gear, on the ice, etc., but in between being gone playing for USHL Green Bay Gamblers, and returning back for his high school hockey season - going into the section finals, and now, graduating - we were unable to connect. I did manage to intentionally get a couple of shots of Matt on the ice, except in my shot, Matt was colliding with my son at the Holy Family vs Benilde-St. Margaret's varsity hockey game on January 21. Matt - #3, my son is in red.
Edited to add in a link to some Holy Family team pics taken by the talented T.E. Morris of TeMO Photo. You can click here to find a few more of Matt. Provided courtesy of T.E. Morris.
Matt still had a wonderful senior session, minus the hockey. Take a peek!
Aside from his commitment to hockey, Matt is also an avid outdoorsman. He enjoys fishing and boating, going up to the family cabin, and spending time with his family when he is able. And if you can fit golf in there, add that too. (again. the kid--err--young man is busy I tell you!)
Matt, it was an honor to take your senior photos, even if we didn't get the chance to fit your hockey personality into the session itself! It has been really cool to see you flourish in your hockey career. I can say "I've known him since back in the days of youth hockey" and Joey can proudly say he played on the same youth team and shared ice with one of Minnesota's finest. Moreso, we are honored to call you our friend. Congratulations in all you do, I'm excited for what is next in your career, and of course, will be cheering you on every step of the way. Or every stride of the skate. You know what I mean.
PS in your busy life that is ahead of you, please remember to call your mom and dad (maybe even your sister) every now and again! I know they are proud of you.
